microblading 101

What is Microblading?

Microblading became noticed in Los Angeles in 2015. Many celebrities like Bella Thorne, Mandy Moore, Megan Good get their brows Microbladed. It is a semi-permanent form of tattooing that is done on the eyebrows. A hand held tool with 6- 14 micro needles is used to deposit pigment into the second layer of the skin called the dermis to create hair-like strokes to enhance brows.

Is it similar to getting a tattoo?

People say a tattoo hurts way more because it goes deeper into the skin and it stays permanently into the skin. As for microblading it gradually fades over time.

How long is the procedure?

About 2 hours for the shaping, numbing and microblading. The microblading part is about 30-45 minutes. Varies with each clients hair amount.

Does it hurt?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. I say a tattoo hurts way more. It can be little pain to no pain at all. A numbing cream is applied before and during the process to not feel any pain. If client feels any discomfort, more numbing cream will be applied. We want you to feel comfortable.

How long does it last for?

It can last from 6 months to 3 years depending on each person’s skin type, age, daily activities (varies with each client). It doesn’t last forever and it requires touch-ups.

How often do I need a touch-up?

Once a year or depends on how much it has faded. The oilier your skin is the faster our brows will fade.

How long does it take to heal?

Microblading takes around 10-12 days to heal. It takes a month for color to fully set. A 4-6 week touch up is high recommended. During the first few weeks there shouldn’t be heavily exercising, swimming, hot showers, saunas, tanning, too much sun exposure, excessive drinking. This will cause pores to open and push pigment out of the skin quickly.  They will be fully healed after 30 days before next touch-up.

Am I a good candidate?

If you have any of the following skin conditions on your face it is best for your safety to not get microbladed.

Skin: Ezcema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris, dematitis (flaking/aggravated), chronic acne, rosacea, super oily skin, sensitive skin, large pores, deep wrinkles, moles, bumps, piercings, sunburned, previous tattooed eyebrows (check with artist). Your skin will have difficulty retaining the pigment.

Medical: hair transplant, irregular state, autoimmune (lupus), pregnant, breastfeeding, hemophilia, heart condition. If you are using accutane, retinol, skin peeling acids. If you got botox you must wait 3 weeks after to get microbladed. Results vary from person to person. Are you a good candidate? If so, let’s get you microbladed!

Do you have to shave your brows?

Oh no. Microblading enhances what hair or eyebrows you already have and keeping it looking natural. This procedure is great for those who have over-plucked over the years or who have thin brows or light hair brows.

Does Microblading scar?

No it does not cause scarring. But if client picks and peels at the scabs during the healing process, it can lead to scarring.

How much does it cost?

The first time you get microbladed It can cost  from $350-$1,500 depending where and who you go to.

What happens after I get microbladed?

A little redness/swelling, sensitivity, darkening of the pigment, mild to thick scabbing/flaking 3-4 days after. Scabs will start to fall off between day 5-10. After the brows will appear light. You will see some to little hair-like strokes. After 4 weeks of healing, you will come back for a touch-up.

Why does it fade?

Since it is semi-permanent it begins to fade due to exfoliation, skincare products, makeup, sweating, swimming, sun exposure, oilier skin, not getting annual touch-ups.

What Pigments do you use?

I use Glamd and Perma Blend pigments. The client chooses the color that best matches.

What tools do you use?

We use disposable microblading pens. Each client has a brand new pen. Everything used on each client is disposed of. We never reuse the same blade on another client!

Can I take pain killers before procedure?

No, there is no need to take tylenol, advil prior to microblading.

Can I get microbladed over my previous tattoo? It depends on the client, microblading can be done on top of old tattoo. It may need to be faded or removed prior to Microblading. Sending a picture to artist will help determine if it is doable.

Are there any guarantees?

We cannot make any promises. Everyone heals different based on skin type and age.  It is unfortunately out of my control. I do my best to give excellent service and I strive to give my clients the perfect brows they always wanted.
